I don't really understand why the media here in the US always bashes the Chinese government no matter what they do. Years ago when Mao was in power and causing the people to starve to death because of his stupid Communist ideology, the Chinese government deserved to be bashed, but now that they are making lives better for the people of China, much of the China bashing is unfair. It would be nice if the Chinese government would recognize fundamental human rights such as the right to free speech, but the major political parties in the US oppose many of these rights, so it is hypocritical for them to criticize another country for doing the same thing they advocate (the Democrats have tried to pass video game censorship laws and many Republicans advocate laws against so-called "obscenity"). Those in Western countries who bash China the most are generally those who have the most contempt for human rights.

President Hu of China is moving your country forward. What most people in the USA know of China would fit in a thimble, what they think they know would fit in a barrel.
To all the people, which is most of you, this is what China is.
IT IS NOT COMMUNIST, that is an economic system, not a political system and China is the exact opposite of communism which is capitalism. Even Henry Kissinger acknowledges China is communist in name only along with many others. Companies like IBM, HP are taking advantage of their capitalistic system.
Second, President Hu is NOT A DICTATOR. A dictator is a totalitarian leader, mostly self appointed. The people in China are free to move, free to travel in and out of the country, free to find new jobs, free to buy any consumer item they want, free to get stinking filthy rich, something that totalitarian dictators do not allow. Further, your president is elected by your legislative system, much like what happens in many western countries.
Third, Tibet is a autonomous region of China and has historical ties to China for centuries. We call our regions, territories and have put down rebellions in the past. China has ruled Tibet before and took it back in the early 50's. What Tibet had then was a religious monarchy ruled by a totalitarian dictatorship.Today the Tibet people have more say in their lives, their future, their countries future then anytime in their history. I suspect the unrest in Tibet is caused by the west because China is putting a lot of effort into showing the world they are not the terrible country the west makes them out to be during the Olympic Games. The reason is very simple, China is becoming a huge economic machine that the west would love to knock down a few notches, what better way then to keep up the illusion of China being terrible. Plus, China and other Asian countries are slowly forming an Asian Economic Union that will probably take on the wests economies and emerge top dog.
I have earned the right to say all of the above and a lot more, because unlike any of you, I have visited here twice and now have made China my home. Through research, experience, travel and talking to the rich to everyday people in China, this country is moving in very positive directions. Yet the west refuses to give them credit, all we do is bash your country.
